Hello my fellow Somervillians.

I've had a rotten day at work (week, actually) and I decided the only cure is a puppy. Not to buy one, but to just cuddle one for a little bit. Trouble is, I don't know of any pet stores in the area. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hee! That's a good idea. How about going to an animal shelter rather than a pet store, though?

That a nice idea. And reputable pet stores don't generally "stock" dogs & cats, anyway.

You could also hang around near the bike path (once the rain stops) and snuggle the doggies that come by.

ha, that was going to be my suggestion. any time i've walked down there around 5 or 6 its just inundated with puppies and dogs. most not on leash, so you can TOTALLY grab it for a couple minute snuggle.

The dog's human may have a say in the matter as well, but I've found most are happy for a fellow dog-lover to play with their little one.

Seconding this. Most shelters look for volunteers to come in and give love to and walk the dogs.

A puppy that doesn't want to be played with is usually a puppy who's asleep.

Awwww, sleepin puppies...

All hail the mighty Google: "animal shelters", boston, ASPCA, stuff like that.

It's a bit of a ways, but Buddy Dog in Weston, near the I-90/20 interchange, are good people.

i was going to recommend them. i like them, and they have wicked cute dogs.

bummer that it's raining, though - i was going to recommend going to the bike path as well.

The MSPCA at The Angel Memorial in JP is a pretty big shelter that usually has puppies. Just give them a call to make sure. Also, I would second Buddy Dog (though it is a bit of a journey). Good luck with your pet therapy.

I have nothing constructive to add, but this post made me go "Awwwwwwww", and then think what a terrific idea this is.

I hear ya on having a bad week though. Hope next week's better.

also, if you've got a car, wander around petsmart/petco (whatever that is) in everett - there are always a toooon of dogs in there.

There aren't any neighborhood cats you can befriend?

Please don't go to a pet store!

Do you have any idea how many dogs are euthanized every year? It's a tragedy and disgrace. Also, consider an older dog--puppyhood is very short.
