Power Outage

There appears to be a major power outage in Teele, Davis, and the surrounding areas. Many restaurants are closing down and a number of the traffic lights are not functioning. Be careful.

I was at 126somethings this morning, up near Tufts, happily reading email when at sometime around 9:30 or 10, I heard a *crack!* like a distant explosion or a very quiet one across the street, and at the same moment, my Internet connection died. At first I didn't think they were related, it just occurred to me how much of a coincidence it was that the sound happened at the very same second as the network outage. But then dreams_of_wings pointed out that power was out too. When we drove off, an hour later, the lights at Powderhouse Square were dead, but at Broadway & Willow they were working.

I ilve at Day and Orchard Streets. Until several years ago, a transformer next to my building would regularly explode on hot summer days. I would hear a sound like multiple gunshots, with the lights going off or back on at each shot. When the noise was over, the power would go out for good.

I still remember one week where this happened multiple nights in a row.

NStar eventually fixed something, because this stopped happening.
