hi again davis square peeps,

you were all so nice last time i posted, saving me from homeless heartache by suggesting i come a month later to find sept housing than originally planned (thanks again for the great advice!), that i thought i would check in again before flying in this weekend re: davis sq housing. here's a link to my craigslist post/plea for housing, but in short, i'm looking for a 2 BR apt for around $1500 that allows a cat.  i've been hitting CL pretty hard,  and will also check out the boston globe when i get in thurs night, but if you know of any other housing resources, or know of a friend who is leaving a sweet pad, i'd really appreciate knowing about it.  most of the places i'm finding are teele sq, arlington, or slightly further away from davis sq.  sniff sniff.

thanks again for your previous help!  i look forward to (physically) joining the davis sq community, even if i am "slumming" it down the road in one of the lesser glamorous squares :)

*update:  i just realized i asked for help w/out including contact info (well, it's there indirectly via CL link but i shouldn't make you work for it!).  if you don't want to comment below, please email me at apozniak AT gmail DOT com  thanks!*

I know the gals downstairs from me are moving out; that's a 2BR for $1300. Yes we're in Teele Square (corner of Powderhouse and North) but it's really not a bad distance from Davis, I promise. It's a 15-20 minute walk to the Red Line. And there is driveway parking. And cats are allowed. I know our lease is Aug. 1 but I don't know about theirs. I can send you the landlord's phone number if you're interested.

If you can swing just a little more (like $1800) by maybe getting a roommate, the 3-bedroom downstairs is opening up, and cats/dogs are allowed. Includes 2 off-street parking spaces, in-house laundry, and cool upstairs neighbors. I'm at:

In general, the housing market on craigslist leaves the work to the renter. The owner/renter posts their available apartment and the new tenant sifts through them all and contacts the owner. Landlords get enough responses that they don't ever need to check the "housing wanted" ads. The only landlords who _would_ need to go through those ads are ones who can't fill their place any other way.

Don't worry if you haven't gotten a response to your plea. That's just not how things are done. Focus on sifting through ads and you'll have a lot more choice in the matter.

Teele Square is a ten minute walk from Davis - 15 way out by the Arlington border - and at least two bus lines go from there into Davis regularly. Also the rents are slightly cheaper in Teele, so don't be afraid!

I live in Teale Square and it's ok. I'm way over by Arlington and it's a 20-minute walk to Davis. It's also a 10-minute walk to Arlinton, via a cute little nature path, where there are some ok restaurants, a CVS, and a cheap-ass gym.

And we've got Johnny's Foodmaster, don't forget. And a very very freindly liquor store. Every time I go there the owner gives my dog a Slim Jim!

Chek out the nature path (http://www.platial.com/tracy_the_astonishing/map/1688). (Yes, another map. I have cartogropher's disease.) The pictures are all from the winter. It's lush now. I scared up a heron there the other day. If you keep following it past Mass Ave it hooks up with a bike path that is really great, leading to a town whose name I can't remember and Zef Photo, which is a really great photo store.

Another option...

I didn't see your previous post (and couldn't find it while sifting through) so i'm not sure if this option had been addressed, but if you were interested, I am a real estate agent, and I live in Davis Square. I could definitely find you a 2 bed for under $1500 in Davis. :) for 8/01 or 9/01 (sometimes 8/1s are actually easier because everyone wants a 9/1)

ask [livejournal.com profile] simonbilleness when his apartment on Morrison is opening and if it's been rented out yet. It's a sweet place. I called dibs on it when I first heard he was moving, but it turned out I ended up needing to look for a 3-bed.
