If you want to save the Someday Café, please go to the Someday tomorrow (Sunday) at 5 pm for an important community meeting. Peter Creyf, owner of Mr. Crepe, will be there. So will Rebekah Gewirtz, the alderman for Ward 6, which includes Davis Square. And so will the Someday employees who hope to take the café over from Gus Rancatore.

More information here and here.

So, if I come out to support the return of Mr. Crepe and M. Creyf, how much physical harm am I placing myself in?

... not as unserious as I wish I was...

I have a question....

How cafe-like was the old Mr. Crepe? Given a space like that of the current Someday, would it be a place where one would sit down with coffee and hang out for a while? 'Cause a crepe place *could* be like that.

I guess there's a less-specific corellary that I'd also like to ask: what specifically do people want to save of the Someday? It clearly isn't Gus Rancatore.... I mean, if Peter Creyf took the space and made it "Someday Creperie", offered the current employees jobs, had a nice community vibe *with clean bathrooms*, would people still be so upset?

there were a few tables at the old Mr Crepe--more if the weather was nice outside. i think a creperie where i could get coffee or tea and hang out would be quite nice. a coffee house with a specialty menu like that would be *unique*. i'm sympathetic to the Someday employees, but i'm not particularly sentimental about the place.

It was a French bistro/creperie/cafe on Tremont in the South End

The other thing that needs to be addressed is that the creperie would need to make more money per table than the Someday -the chefs cannot hang around while people "hang out for a while" drinking coffee only.

There may be a minimum price per order to keep the 'one coffee an hour' types out.

We also need to ensure that it is not going to continue as a hang out for undesireables.

you don't need a chef to make a crepe. a barista with some training could do it just as well. if you want fancy fillings, you have a prep chef in the morning.

chef, shwef, whateva! The point is it is a crepe store not a coffee lounge and social center for some of the city's poor.

I don't think it's made for asshole either, but there is apparently a fair bit of them as well

Are you a troll, or are you actually part of the problem?

i really want to believe that you're being sarcastic, but this is the second time i've seen you make a comment like this in this community. what the hell is your problem? somerville does have "blue collar" roots and "undesirable" people exist in EVERY city. if you don't want either of those things, go move to weston.

Hey Ron, thanks for asking this question at the meeting. :)

I can't go because of the Theatre@First matinee, but can you post a report after the meeting?

Also, I'm hoping that Peter Creyf won't get bullied. None of this is his fault at all. If someone is bashing him, I hope you or someone else will point out that he's not to blame here. Personally I'd be delighted with a sit-down crepe hang-out.

I seem to have missed a beat here.

Does the Someday "want" to be saved?

Posts got conflicted at times, but I got hre impression that Mr. Rancatore let the lease lapse.

Am I confused about this?

Thank you, Ron.

That helps clarify.

Thanks for keeping us posted on this.
