A big 3-bedroom apartment is opening on the 1st floor of my house in Ball Square for September 1, only $1800 + utilities!



I'm helping my landlord rent the 1st floor apartment in our house. We're on Bay State Avenue, on the Davis side of Ball Square, one street over from the lovely park at Powderhouse, 9 minute walk to the Davis T.

This apartment used to rent for $3000 back in the good old boom days of the 90's. Rent has come way down, and now is a good time to get in on a sizable apartment in a wonderful neighborhood. The house is queer-friendly, poly-friendly. (er, the tenants and landlord are. The physical house itself doesn't much care. :-)

Here's what you get:

*3 bedrooms on a Philadelphia layout. One bedroom is up a little flight of stairs (that's the "love nest"), another is near the front of the main floor and the 3rd is off the kitchen. The two lower rooms have a locking door between them and can be made into a tandum suite.

*Free laundry in the basement. Also storage in the basement (on skids).

*Two free off-street parking spaces, and possibly a 3rd if you're willing to gut half the garage yourself.

*A back yard basically to yourself. It needs TLC.

*Front and back porches, both covered.

*Dogs and cats and critters allowed!

*Living room, dining room with a pretty built-in hutch, kitchen with pantry and enough room for a kitchen table. No dishwasher (washing dishes is good for your character).

*A quiet neighborhood very convenient to the hub of Davis while being slightly away from the noise. We're just steps from all the eateries of Ball Square (El Guapo, SoundBites, Kelly's, Urban Gourmet), the upscale White Hen, True Grounds, and other businesses.

*A very nice landlord who lives out of state. I help him with managing some things, including this rental.


What the apartment isn't is posh. It's comfortable, well-appointed, and roomy, but your knees won't buckle from the gorgeousness. There's plenty of light, though, and you're free to play around with the look and make it your own. You can paint it your choice of colors, and do what you like. He pays for paint.

On the 2nd floor is a very quite MIT woman, and up in the rafters are me and vanguardcdk, your friendly neighborhood Firsties. We're both quiet at home too, and share the apartment with two kitties.

Smoking is allowed on the porches but not inside.

I really want to get someone cool and friendly in there. Split 3 ways, it's only $600 each + util. At one point there were 5 people living there (2 couples and a single), so there's flexibility about numbers. It's also quiet enough for a small family.
