Has anyone been to Diva Lounge? How are the drinks, atmosphere, etc.? I'm wondering 'cause every time I walk by it seems empty. Is it worth checking out?

BTW, I searched older entries for "diva lounge" and all I found was lots of talk about giant catboxes and the giant cats that use them. ;)

I have to admit I've never been to the lounge part, but the restaurant part is excellent. The food is very good and presented in a more attractive and modern fashion than it is at most Indian restaurants. The ambience is also a lot more hip and modern than at your typical curry joint. The only drink I had there was a champagne-and-mango mimosa-like cocktail that was very tasty.

I've never been to the lounge, but that old thread gave me a good laugh.

they have some yummy drinks and small tasty indian tapas. nice place for a bite and a sip. the drinks aren't terribly strong and there's teevees; either of which might make one decide in favor of gargoyles' instead, but i go to diva lounge now and again and have always enjoyed it.

Love the Diva Lounge. Good food, good drinks, funky environment. It gets packed in the later evenings, but early evening it's nice and quiet.

I've been there once. The atmosphere was ok, a little odd but it could grow on me. I think they've since lit up the weird bubble things. They had these very tasty little snacks at the bar, I think they were made of puffed rice? I couldn't stop eating them. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgable. The drinks a little pricey for what I'd like to pay, but probably go with the atmosphere. I'd go back if I were in the right mood. Usually for a quick drink I like a place with a more homey feel.

The drinks are good and varied, the snacks are tasty, and the crowd is more varied than one might think from the outside. The decor is very Euro-club, and the music can get a little loud on weekends, but there is terrific people watching, and it's quieter earlier in the evening. I wouldn't go there for an intimate chat but it's fun if you're feeling a little fancy.

The bubble things in the wall do light up now. It's mesmerizing.

I tried to go once, they didn't allow us entrance because of the way were dressed, which was not sloppy at all. Business casual only, no shorts, and subculture-looking-folk need not apply.

Does it attract a primarily Indian crowd?

How'd I miss that giant cat thread the first time? :-)

It really wants to be on Newbury St. Or in 1968. Decent drinks, a little on the pricey side, with funky pod restrooms in the back. Not quite my tumbler of gin, but worth checking out. It might be yours.

I agree, it's one of those places to check out once or twice, but I can't see myself being a regular customer. It's too much of a wannabe Gypsy Bar.

Dive Lounge: Don't go there..

No! Diva is junky! No need to go there....

There's nothing there for you... Especially nothing with yummy blueberries in it. No need to go there and make it all crowded.

They crack me up with their silly, pretentious little red velvet roping and stanchions outside. What a hoot.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.

You're definitely not.

I have to confess I've never been there in part because the food at the Diva restaurant is so mediocre that their lounge didn't attract me. I think I'll check it out at some point soon, though since it sounds like it's better than the eatery.

I prefer Namaskar for Indian in Davis, and also find the red velvet roping a bit lame. And the weird bubble walls is tacky to me, too, although it does light up...

Short Answer: Good But Expensive

Long Answer: The shrimp samosa appetizer we got with our drinks was like $12 for four samosas. Martinis and Sangria were like $12 each. We managed to run up a $60 tab with four drinks and two apps. That said, the samosas were fabulous and the drinks were innovative. It was a little more Leather District than Davis Square. The prices and the atmosphere seemed a bit out of place but were a pleasant change from the norm. I liked it, but it was EXPENSIVE.

Haven't been to the lounge but in the bar in the restaurant section, they gave us a lot of alcohol in our drinks any time we've ordered drinks there. Once we asked for a shot of Sambuca and got about 2 oz of it.
