Old Comic Books Donation Places?

A friend was about to throw out 1000+ comic books (from 1988-1998 or so) from Marvel & DC, so I temporarily rescued them, because honestly, it hurts to see readable material recycled. Does anyone know of a local organization that would take them (I can drop them off, seeing as they're sitting in the back of my car right now anyway)?

(They're not moldy or too torn -- quite in readable shape -- but they have never been kept in archival (i.e. keeps 'em even marginally valuable) storage so I know they're useless as collectibles.)

If you can't find a charity that wants 'em, *I'll* take them. 'Cause, comics!

Er, by which I mean, I'd love them and give them a good home but obviously a charity ranks me in the deserving list.
