My kitty the klepto
Aug. 1st, 2006 11:25 pmAbout a week ago, my cat came home with a pair of gardening gloves. I asked a couple of my neighbors if the gloves were theirs, but no takers. I forgot about it. Well, I was out of town last week and came home to find 2.5 pairs of gloves in the house, scattered at various distances from the door. And about 15 minutes ago, I hear the cat making his "mommy, look what I did cuz I looooove you" sound, and found that the count was up to 3 full pairs (and yes, they match, but appear to have been assembled one at a time). This has clearly become A Behavior.
Questions for the readers:
1) Has anyone reading this lost gardening gloves lately?
2) Any suggestions about how to identify the people whose gloves these are?
3) Any suggestions about how to help my cat understand the concept of personal property?

Date: 2006-08-02 12:46 pm (UTC)In high school I had a cat with a stuffed animal fixation. In the evenings, if people were downstairs watching TV, she would carry stuffed animals down the stairs and put them at our feet and look very, very smug (she wouldn't let us pat her afterward and she'd lie down just out of reach, but showering her with praise was fine). I mean, several stuffed animals a night. Multiple trips. Once she brought down a teddy bear as big as she was, apparently by straddling it (I have no idea how she made it down the stairs). She had this peculiar yowl that meant she was carrying "food" for us. At night, she'd carry them all back upstairs.
