Hi neighbours!

I just found about conference/exhibition in Convention center SIGGRAPH 2006 (computer graphics and interactive techniques - digital art, animation, and visual effects). I REALLY want to see it. The ticket is pretty expensive (about $100), but there are some discounts if you register online.

To get something off you should be an ACM SIGGRAPH Member or you (I) should know some kind of Promotional code or exhibits only code from a 2006 SIGGRAPH exhibitor. Does anyone have any of these? Or maybe you have some other access to the exihibition?

If you have information like this (ACM member or promo codes), can you share it with me?

I'd really appreciate your help!

Another exhibits only code. You can upgrade to exhibits plus for $25. Not sure what that gets you in to though.
The art exhibit and the emerging tech exhibits are fun and worth seeing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Instructions for EXHIBITS ONLY pass registration is as follows:

The Exhibits Only Code is Edu1032. Pass this code to customers,
students, and other interested parties that may want to attend as a
guest of The Art Institutes. This will get them into the exhibit hall
only. To take advantage of these passes follow these steps:

Go to:
http://registration.expoexchange.com/ShowSIG061/Attendee/MemberSearch.as
px
Choose the ATTENDEE option.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the EXHIBITS ONLY selection
Enter the code Edu1032 in the Exhibits Only space (do not worry about
the promotional code)
In addition, there will be an opportunity to upgrade to EXHIBITS PLUS
for $25.00 that will include additional benefits during the show. Once
the registration process is complete, a Summary page will follow to view
the information

I went yesterday on an Exhibits Only pass, and that meant - exhibits only. The art show and emerging technologies were not accessible (though we got in when we ran into someone we knew, who just asked the badge checkers, "Can they come in with me?").

To estimate scope: 20,000 attendees. Time depends on your needs. I spent 2.5 hours in the exhibit hall alone and didn't see every booth, though I spent considerable time at 5-10 booths.

The exhibit hall is all companies marketing their products and services: 3D printers and 3D displays, gfx cards, physics engines, lessons-on-DVD, animation toolkits, etc. LucasArts demo'd their physics engine for XBOX 360. Get the Plus for the cool stuffages: new research demos, walking/shaking/dancing art etc. I only peeked in the door to those so take it from others, or just pay the $25 and go.

I thought the art and especially Emerging Technologies much more interesting than the exhibition hall, which was all vendors of software and books and the like. You can certainly fill two hours between all three - maybe even 2 hours in the exhibition hall, depending on how much time you spend talking to the exhibitors. I tend toward thriftiness, so I would not have spent $25 bucks for the art and emerging tech, but it _was_ very cool.

I think the art & tech part is worth the $25. but I guess my interest runs that way. A lot more interesting than the price of a coupla three tix to movies, etc.

The exhibit hall on the other hand held almost no interest for me at all. I walked through a few times hoping to get my attention caught by something but I mostly skimmed by. I'm not doing 3D development these days (seemed @ 75% 3D vendors) and I don't have much interest in hollywood style animation but it certainly seemed like a very enthusiastic crowd.

I've been to SIGGRAPH in LA (which I think is it's home base) and it was larger overall. Still, it's great that it's here. Be nice if ISEA was here someday.
