I've taken control, and fallen behind. Here I say let us gather this Saturday and discuss options and ideas. Let's all brainstorm together, and see who is really interested; maybe form a more formal group of people to carry this forward.

I hereby call to order the first meeting of the Somerville Community Path Esplanade (SCoPE) this Saturday at 2pm, in the Someday Cafe, Davis Square.

Many thanks!

No new acronym needed. SCoPE works just fine.

The Someday's last day will be Saturday, August 12. Until then it will close at 9 pm daily.

The bike path is technically not an esplanade. Just sayin'. :-}

Unless, along with the cafe, we create a 'water feature' ...

There are built-in "water features" along the sides of the path after every rain storm.

Saturday night, you can often see drunk Tufts students producing built-in water features along the sides of the path even when skies are clear.

Lex Park has a fountain for kids. Does that count?

Hmmm, actually, M-W says:

: a level open stretch of paved or grassy ground; especially : one designed for walking or driving along a shore

In practice, every place I've ever known to be specifically called an esplanade has been along a body of water, usually the ocean, sometimes a river (hence our own famed esplanade along the Charles). It never would have occurred to me to call the bike path an esplanade, but if it floats all y'all's boats, don't let me stop you. :-}

I'd be there, but I'm working a conference this weekend. If you end up with an email list tho, mail me at LJ and I'll send you an address to put on it.

For those of us who didn't attend the meeting, can you give us a summary of what happened there?
