I just recieved this message from somervillestep.org it is about extension of the Community Path from Cedar to Central Street, and the city's possible acquisition of land on Central Street that is now used as a parking lot for Cambridge Health Alliance. The parking lot would be reduced and reconfigured, and the remainder of the land cleared and landscaped.

At 6:30 PM at the VNA Assisted Living faculty on Lowell Street, this is
described as a "neighborhood meeting to discuss the latest
developments".

Also see the article on the front page of the Somerville Journal today,
or

Could you please edit your post to explain more clearly what this is about?

Specifically, it is about extension of the Community Path from Cedar to Central Street, and the city's possible acquisition of land on Central Street that is now used as a parking lot for Cambridge Health Alliance. The parking lot would be reduced and reconfigured, and the remainder of the land cleared and landscaped.

What is the proposed route?

If I had to guess, the path would be extended into the plot immediately northeast of Alpine Street where the abandoned rail is....and cross Lowell Street south of the MBTA rail line, and come out on Central across from the Verizon building? Otherwise, you're dealing with a lot of inclines.

But the Green Line proposal, last I heard, would run along Broadway.

That's more or less it -- the path will go under the southern Lowell Street bridge, then climb up next to the VNA and come through what's now the parking lot to Central Street.

I don't understand what you mean about the Green Line on Broadway.

here's the MBTA link for the "beyond Lechmere" planning reports:

here's the city's links:

Basically, it doesn't look like a decision has been made as to where the green Line extension will go . . .

One branch will run from Lechmere, along the Lowell commuter rail line to somewhere in Medford Hillside or West Medford. The exact terminus is not settled, nor are the locations of the intermediate stations.

The other branch will go from Lechmere to Union Square.

Be interesting to see if they do put in a Gilman square station . . .

I'd expect so. As a member of the Bicycle Committee, I will lobby hard to have a station at Lowell Street, since that's where the Community Path will meet the Green Line right-of-way.

Any ideas on whether or not the T is planning on allowing bikes on the Green line trains in the future? With the new bi-level trains, bikes can easily be rolled on. But there still aren't many of these new trains yet...

You might want to point out that the meeting at the VNA is next Tuesday, the 22nd. I'll try and be there since I'm only a block or so away...

Yes, basic information like time, date, and location would be critical to getting people to attend this. Right now, we have two out of three in the original posting....

Yes, please put the date back into the message. It was in there originally, but you took it out for some reason.
