so, as of today we’re looking to find another veterinarian for our cats. our previous vet, Union Square Veterinary Clinic, completely screwed up the scheduling of a spaying appointment we made for one of our cats. so now we have a cranky cat who hasn’t been fed in twelve hours, and [livejournal.com profile] chaiya lost a chunk of her morning because even after several phone calls to confirm, the office was completely unprepared to spay our cat. bah.

any recommendations for alternative providers?

thanks,
-steve

Thank you all for the recommendations!

Cambridge Veterinary Care, Dr. Weiner. They're fantastic and have two locations, one in Boston near Symphony and one close to Porter on Mass Ave.

Dr. Leavy, who used to be at Porter Square vet (in Davis Square) and is now at City Cats in Arlington Center, is wonderful, and deals very well with our aggressive and angry cats. She also cured one cat's diabetes, or at least got him on a course of treatment which made the diabetes go into remission.

I second Dr. Leavey. I've been taking my 12- and 8-year-old cats to her their whole lives, which has included some rather long hikes while she was in downtown Boston (long time ago). She's caring, professional, and takes the time even when she's swamped. They *only* deal with cats, and the staff is wonderful.

I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Leavy, and Dr. Parker at Porter Square Vet is also wonderful. He has two cats of his own and is sensible and kind.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Leavy. She's always been great. The staff at City Cats are also good, and the fact that there aren't any dogs in the waiting room makes the experience a little less stressful.

I switched from Union Sq Vet to Porter Sq Vet and have been happy since. I see any vet available and it's always been fine.

I've also had no problems with the Porter Square Vet.

We've also switched from Union Square to Porter Square (who are really in Davis!) and have been very happy with the care and professionalism there.

Winter Hill Veterinary & Dr. Jane McDonald have been great with my very cranky cat - lots of followup @ meds and options.

If you have a car... I used to use Brighton Animal Hospital. They might be a little more pricey but they are good and can usually get you in same-day for emergencies.

We were with Dr. Leavey when she was at Porter Square and originally stayed when she left for City Cats, but turnover at Porter Square seems really high; it was like we were seeing a different vet every visit. We've since followed Dr. Leavey to City Cats, and have been very pleased with the level of treatment.

I like Porter Square vet. I've been going there 6 years.

Harri was put to sleep there last week and they handled it well.

Oh, no, I'm so sorry, [livejournal.com profile] talonvaki! Harri was such a sweet cat. :(

I have never heard a single good thing about Union Square. I wouldn't take my cats there even in an emergency, despite them being at the end of my street.

I'm afraid my solution is in Beverly!

Porter Square Vet. I've had a good experience with everyone I've dealt with there.

Horrible, awful, terrible experience at Union Square vet. Avoid! Avoid!

We switched to Doctor Parket at Porter Square Vet (near the Rosebud) and he has been marvelous to us. His staff always goes on about how sweet our Sherlock is...I bet they say that to all the cat owners. But it is nice.

I have two cats that go to Porter Sq Vet and have never had problems with any of the vets there except one Dr. ---ski. He had absolutely no idea how to deal wit my cat - she was clearly pissed off (hissing and growling) and he proceeded to take the kennel, chased her around the office saying "just get in! you're just going home now!" until I stopped him and said "uh, I'll get that." Even a non-cat person can figure out that isn't a good idea.

Other than him, everyone else rocks, my favorites were Dr. A Cohen and Dr. A Parker.

I should add that Dr. Cohen sent me a card after we had to put down a cat a couple of years ago. I don't know if it's standard procedure, but it was very thoughtful nevertheless.
