Rite Aid bought Brooks Pharmacy today. All Brooks stores will be re-branded as Rite Aid.

I hope this doesn't complicate the process of getting a new mural put up.

I've missed Rite Aid since moving out of Upstate New York. Now if we can only get a Wegman's! (But in Porter, not Davis.)

I like the blank wall much better...

Is there any difference between these stores? (aside from the fact that there can be 2 people in the store and it will still take 10 minutes to check out)

well, Brooks is actually Eckerd, anyway, it was until recently. Just so long as they keep the pharmacists at the Somerville Ave. Brooks, who are so good that I keep my prescriptions they are even though it is seriously out of my way and there are about 20 closer pharmacies to my house, I'm happy.

Actually, Brooks tends to be fairly significantly cheaper than CVS, in my experience, which is why I'm imagining they don't do a rewards program. A lot of the stuff I generally buy at stores ends up being $1-3 cheaper at Brooks (especially Aveeno products). I also tend to like the layout better—they're less hospital-sterile-flourescent lighty. And they sell my favorite Goat's Milk soap and lotion, which CVS doesn't.

I'll miss Brooks.

rite aids prices are different as is the store policies.

i also find CVS to be the most expensive of all the local drugstores!

I hadn't thought a new mural was going in, not since the pharmacy's attitude towards the old one was "well it was shabby and since the artist who'd done it had moved across the country and couldn't come back, we got rid of it, because golly, there certainly aren't any artists around here who could've helped restore it or put up a new one entirely."

That's pretty much the attitude I got from the pharmacy, since they'd resorted to putting up signs all over the doors and cash registers to stop people from asking about it.

maybe there'll be more staff at the checkouts now?

although, i sure will miss the blinking "K" in the BROOKS sign.

Man. I did some graphics work for Brooks a couple of years ago (they're based in Rhode Island).

That sucks—Rite Aids are so much more lame than Brooks!

This battle is just begining, here and across the country. They can still pay a living wage and keep our murals up. And since they're so destructive to local economies and communities we should make sure that they do more for us, like sponsor bike lanes abd city clean ups, and, we should ensure that they follow our zoning regulations. we should also find a way to increase their taxes, make them install benches and bike racks up and do more neat stuff on the sidewalks that would promote walkable neighborhoods. They should be required to have plants on their roofs and as well as have some form of green power like solar panels or geothermal heating\cooling systems. They all should have to provied clean public restrooms. And give out free newmans own coffee form 5 to 7 just like McDonalds does.
