Hello everyone.
I have a question, but first the setup. I'm moving from Davis to Central on the first of september. I've managed to secure a van in order to move myself, but since I'm under 25 I'll be paying through the nose. I'm happy to bite the bullet, but was thinking of exploring other options. If I were to post on craigslist something like, "I'll pay you if you let me fill your van or truck with my stuff and then you can drive it down Mass. Ave. a little ways and then I'll unload it. You don't have to help load or unload and It'll probably only take one trip, two at the absolute most, but certainly no longer than 90 minutes. Great if you're moving too and have a truck for the day and want help paying fot it." I'd word it differently, of course, but my question is...How much should I offer for such a service? I really have no idea of the ballpark fee for this. Any advice on the matter would be wonderful. Also, if anyone reading this has a van, minivan, or truck that they own or are renting on that day, quotes a good price, and is able to help...(dot dot dot)
I hope everyone is having a great Thursday night.
Thanks,
Adam

ok, so this might be a really dumb suggestion, but what about taxis?

A friend recommended this guy to me:
Stephen Dean

He was awesome and beyond professional. He has a truck and started helping people move to make some extra cash. He was so great, and such a nice guy. All the people who helped me move were thrilled and said they'd probably call him when they moved, and I think a couple of them did, and were happy with him again.

He has absurdly low rates of I think $35 per hour, unless he's wised up to how much of a steal that is.

I know that I ordered Uhauls when I was under 25 - the tiny truck for in town moves starts at $25, if you run out of other options. Good luck - moving is NO fun!

i second Uhaul. if you are at least 18, you always pay the same price as someone older. but if you make a reservation do it right away because that is the biggest move in day in the area and as i found out yesterday reservations are already hard to come by. and if you are not moving too much stuff, the cargo vans are super cheap and pretty big considering. you probably won't pay more than $40 for a move like that.
good luck!

Uhaul is notorious for taking reservations, then not having a van for you when you show up... this has happened to myself and friends several times at several different locations. they truly don't care about your business at all...

if anything, try budget, they were much more reliable.

Have you checked out Zipcar? They've got vans, pickups, etc. from around $7-$12 an hour including gas and insurance($25 application fee, but they are currently running a $25 off promotion for new members) and no underage fee. If you're 21 and have a relatively clean and established driving record you shouldn't have any problem signing up, although you might have to rush a bit to get everything set by Sept. 1.
