Hello everyone.

Sad to report, but my bike was stolen today-in broad daylight right outside the window from the area where I work at the American Reperatory Theatre box office in Harvard Square. It was stolen between 12:12pm and 5pm. It is a silver Marin Larkspur with a Broadway Bikes sticker on it. I have a serial number. My boyfriend and my mother bought it for me for my BIRTHDAY ONE WEEK AGO. I am pretty much heartbroken now. I'd do anything to get it back. The policeman I spoke to at Harvard suggested that whoever did this was a pro and used a bolt cutter to sever and destroy my cable lock (a Valentine's day present, thanks jerk.)

Firstly, If anyone happened to be in Harvard Square and saw anything or know anything, or see a silver Marin Larkspur with a Broadway bicycle sticker for "sale," I am offering a reward,

Secondly, has anyone here had their bike stolen? Where do people who steal bikes sell them? Should I check Craigslist to see if he would list it? Or would someone be that stupid? Should I alert local bike stores with my serial #? Has anyone met with any success in trying to recover a stolen bike. It was a cable lock, so I don't have an anti-theft agreement. I'd just like to hear if anyone had insight into these matters; anything at all would be appreciated.

yes! certainly check craigslist. even in 6 months... someone might sell it, then that person might resell it, etc.

and certainly call the local bike stores. it can't hurt - i'm sure they probably don't want to be caught reselling stolen goods.

definitely report the serial number as stolen, and to Marin, local bike stores, and see if you can't find the places that do the big bike auctions - that's apparently a large dumping ground for stolen bikes - esp expensive ones. i've heard of people recovering their own bikes at these things.

also tell all yer friends what the # is, and show them a picture of the bike. they might just spot the thing somewhere and can call the police in.

Sorry to hear about your bike, I know that's really frustrating. I had awful luck with my bike, too. Or, I should say, bikes. I got a total of 12 days usage out of 2 bikes. The first had its quick release stolen (nothing else, just the quick release). Then our basement (in Kenmore Sq.) was broken into and several bikes stolen, mine included. Next bike had its neck stolen (nothing else, just the neck). Then the entire bike was taken.

Police told me there was really nothing I could do...
