Moving to Davis Square

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I've been living in the South End in Boston the past few years and have been progressively getting sick of the area. I originally moved there because of all the neat artist studios (many of my friends used to live in their studios and I used to rent space for electronics projects), independently owned stores, and open-minded culture (I'm straight, but have lots of G/L/B friends). But in the past few years the area has turned into an overdeveloped, sanitized, boutique-infested, Armani-ized neighborhood. Seems everyone drives BMWs or fat SUVs, and brand new ugly "luxury condo" buildings are popping up everywhere like weeds. Really sad. Time for me to bail.
I've always loved Davis Square, and I've been hanging out there a lot more this past year. I really love it...the people, the geography, the feeling I get wandering around. So I've decided to take the plunge and move. :)
I'm buying a house just 5 min walking distance to the T station, and if all goes well I'll be moving in next month. Can't wait to use the bike path (I don't own a car) and to actually live in a place where I already love hanging out.
It's exciting to find this online community built around Davis Square. I've read all the previous posts, and I hope to be an active member from now on. I also hope to get involved in any real-world community activism to help keep Davis Square as wonderful and cool as it is today.
