every night on pearson ave for the past week or so there's been a car alarm that goes off for 20 seconds or so. anyone know why?

Probably because no one is hiding in the bushes waiting hurl a brick through his windshield when it goes off.

I think a police report is in order. Maybe the owner is away and something happened to the car or maybe the owner doesn't know or care that the is disturbing the neighborhood.
