A day or two ago, a city road crew removed half of an island in the middle of Davis Square. They also took away the DAVIS SQUARE sign. I hope they put it somewhere safe so we can have it back later.

Today, the sidewalks on all sides of One Davis Square are closed off with yellow tape. Pedestrians must walk in a coralled-off section of the street. The half-island was removed so that there is still room for two eastbound lanes of traffic.

I could pass on the CVS - another chaotic, smelly (as in nasty frangrances outgassing from all the cosmetics, soap, etc) uber pharmacy. Is there really a market in Davis for two uber pharmarcies? (Brooks + CVS). And the Porter CVS is what - a half mile away? Kind of like the Starbucks marketing model where they saturate an area. No doubt though that CVS has done all their business plan research (one assumes - I have sometimes been shocked when I have consulted at various comapnies and seen how unplanned many developments were).

What we *really* need is a public bathroom machine - like on the traffic island in front of Mike's... ;-)

Aren't there still _two_ CVSes in Harvard Square? (I forget, because they kinda become invisible. But not in a good way.)

There was one until a couple months ago on Summer Street as you head towards South Station from Downtown Crossing, but they finally folded. A Walgreen's, I think.
