Can anyone comment on the random spraypainted red and white hearts everywhere? One side of my street has a perfectly shaped red heart in front of each house, and the other side of the street has white hearts. I noticed True Grounds in Ball Sq. has 4 hearts in front of their store, and they don't know why. There's one random heart on the bike path, and on the benches in the bike path. I heard there's a bunch on Highland too.

Up on College Ave there are hearts painted on one side of each crosswalk line on the crosswalk across Morrison St. I thought it was very cute.

Sounds like you're heartless, then. Alas...

All's I can think of is the Passover story, except with Care Bears or something.

That was my first thought as well, but then it got muddled.

Really! Hi, neighbor! (We don't live there yet but we just bought a place.)

Just guessing -- could this be connected with some upcoming running race through the neighborhood?

A road race sounds like a good guess, Ron.
(or some other type of organized event)
We have some on one of the mailboxes on Lowden Ave & I have seen them throughout the Ball Square area over the last week or so.

I haven't seen the hearts, but I did see some kind of weird numercial code chalked on several walls and on display in one store window when walking between Porter and Harvard last weekend. They looked sort of like IP addresses (groups of 2-3 digits separated by periods), but too long, and with punctuation marks scattered throughout. Some kind of MIT scavenger hunt? Who knows.

That's the Cambridge Code ( www.cambridgecodex.com) It's a simple method of encrypting messages that starting popping up over the last month in and around Porter.

Willow Ave has them too, red hearts on one side of the street and black on the other. I think I'd have a complex if a black heart randomly showed up outside my door. There's also hearts on the benches at the Willow Ave. bike path entrance.

maybe someone's whimsical art project? does anyone else remember all the 'santa is real' tags showing up in boston a few years ago?
