The Boston-based quartet Everything Is A Little Glorious creates original through-composed music that draws from free improvisational jazz, pop rock (especially avant pop), latin, folk, and bluegrass, generating a sound uniquely their own. With the participation of Ashley Paul on alto sax, Jameson Swanagon on electric guitar, Matt Plummer on trombone, and Ben Davis on acoustic bass, EIALG focuses on the compositions and the collective sound of the group rather than on individual soloists. The improvisation in their pieces comes from a collective sense in order to serve the melody.

Often described as a chamber rock ensemble, EIALG’s compositions emphasize simplicity, transparency and clarity, sometimes using loud aggressive noise to get their point across. Their concise compositions, containing focused improvisation and evocative melodies, require the players to supersede their traditional instrumental roles in order to generate a cohesive sound that is best defined as indefinable.

Background information for Everything Is A Little Glorious (heard on myspace.com/alittleglorious):

Bassist Ben Davis likes to play glorious music. He grew up in a musical family; his father is a professional American roots musician. Originally from Saratoga Springs NY, he is currently a student at the New England Conservatory and studying with Jerry Leake and Don Palma. He has spent over ten years playing jazz, classical music, folk and bluegrass.

A longtime fondness of bunnies and magic led Ashley Paul on a quest into the dungeons of the NYC subway stations spending many countless hours serenading passers by with visions of puddles and dragon songs. Having finally determined that love is harder to find with the rats and fluster, she has come back to the light, now filling her days and nights with studious meditations on cloud heretics. When not actively pursuing her dream of a melodica/glockenspiel symphony, Ashley enjoys screaming and making music with Everything Is A Little Glorious.

Matt Plummer is from the cold yet wonderful land of the Twin Cities. Then he moved to Colorado, where he played the trombone in classical, free improvisation, salsa, jazz and reggae bands. He has played with creative jazz musicians Art Lande and Ron Miles, as well as his own groups Tonic Brass, Canoe, and a free jazz collective Rubato. Among others, he has recorded with the internationally recognized Summit Brass ensemble, the Michael Pagan Big Band and the Colorado Jazz Orchestra. Matt has studied with Bill Stanley, Art Lande, Hankus Netsky, Norman Bolter, Allan Chase, and John McNeil. He is now a resident of Jamaica Plain and a graduate student at New England Conservatory. Matt likes to be heavily involved with the musicians' union, music collectives like the Coalition for Creative Music, and political work.

Jameson Swanagon spent most of his first 22 years on the Central Coast of California. The climate there is mild. In 2005 the guitarist moved to Boston to pursue a Masters Degree at the New England Conservatory of Music in the field of Contemporary Improvisation. Back in the mild climate, Jameson co-leads a rock group (via airplane and media mailings) called Bloody Heads. In Boston, when it is hot and wet, or cold and dry, he is a member of the free-improvising group, Sven Trio, and the chamber-rock quartet, Everything Is A Little Glorious. He has studied with Brad Shepik, Ran Blake, Dominique Eade, Anthony Coleman, and Joe Morris. Jameson currently lives in Cambridge with his wife, Danae.
