I just found out that the city of somerville will give residents a compost bin for $25.

Call ahead to the DPW and ask if they have any in stock before making the trek out there, though, and make sure that you talk to someone who knows for sure. When I got one, it was the last one they had around, and they weren't even sure they had that - but that didn't come up until I'd handed over the money and been given a receipt to pick up an actual composter with.

Other than that, though - well worth it.
