Artbeat -- Suggestions for Talent, etc.

The Annual Davis Square Street Festival is being held on July 19th and 20th this year.

Turns out I am on at least one (volunteer) subcommittee. Let me know how you might be interested in helping out.

We are looking for suggestions and submissions from Street Performers and other talent, with a not-too-exclusive preference for Somerville residents.

Something vaguely techno-rave-y is being planned as well, in an effort to try and give teenaged and younger college-aged folks more motivation to attend. (It was suggested that these folks are often Dragged Along with parents and younger kids.)

If you have ideas of what can be done to improve artbeat, post them here. Thanks!

I'm not on that committee because I know folks who'd do a better job at that than me. (e.g Circle, Thistle)

Contact the staff directly and let them know specifically what you'd want to offer.

I didn't do artbeat last year because I wasn't sure what it was.

is a community festival in Davis Square. There are craft vendors, food vendors, free art activities for all ages, a bikepath parade on friday, free performances (primarily a couple big concerts in Linear park). If you buy the Artbeat dogtag, there are more indoor performances available (snappy dance and many more other troupes in the Somerville theater all day, one-act plays at [the works], etc.), including the evening thing scheduled at the VFW, which will at least start with some performance art stuff, and then probably clear out into being an all ages techno party. (I'm not sure of the details of that event.)

The arts council hasn't published a schedule yet. I'll be sure to repost to this community when they do.

However, Volunteers are still needed. Still need wandering street performers, and folks to coordinate activities for kids.
