Dominion Electricity?

Has anyone tried Dominion Electricity? I got their mailer and was considering switching, but I don't know if there's a down side I'm missing. Looks like their .0915 rate beats NStar's .1144.

i'm pretty sure the .0915 rate is only for 2 months, isn't it? what does it jump to after that?

also, the globe reports that nstar might sock you for some retroactive charges depending on when you leave, due to some price structuring involving a 6 month billing cycle.

Their website says that 2007 rates will be determined after NStar sets its 2007 rates, but it doesn't promise that its 2007 rates will be competitive, or equal to NStar, or more.

yes but it also states in the offer letter that you will then receive 20% off their new 2007 rates when nstar releases them.

I signed up for it.

When Nstars new rate comes out you will receive 20% off that new rate for 2007...just as for the rest of the year you have the 20% off nstars current rate.

Interesting... Do they offer any green energy programs? That's my major complaint with NStar—at least with National Grid (which won't service Somerville), they offer you the opportunity to choose wind-generated energy.

That was my first thought too. From their web site, though, it appears their primary means of generation are burning coal in West Virginia plus nuclear power. They've got several hydroelectric plants and a wood-burning one. (This was all on their web site, but I can't find it exactly now. Plus livejournal won't let me post urls while logged in via typekey.) They make a big deal about how the coal plants are now much less horrid than they were a few years ago, but that doesn't exactly equal "good".

yeah... coal and nuclear both make me a bit nervous. Some nuclear isn't bad, but most is dirty dirty stuff. And I never bought the "clean-burning coal" bit.

Same here, I would switch and even pay more for green power.
