Financial planning, fun fun

Can anyone recommend a good financial planner based in the area? I am looking for someone who is independent, relatively affordable and who would be willing to offer a free initial consultation to make sure we can work together.

I had a very good experience with Sensible Financial (www.sensiblefinancial.com), whose offices are near the Cambridgeside Galleria/Kendall Square. However, I got their services for free (long story) so I can't speak to whether they are affordable. Definitely worth it if you can afford it though.

Charlo Mauer, "Peace of Money". She does green/socially responsible investment planning. dunno about free initial consult, but we got all our stuff done in a single meeting.

We have had a wonderful experience with Julie Christie. She owns her own business but is associated with Ameriprise Financial Services. I'm not sure what you considered affordable, but we pay her an annual fee ($600 this year?), for which she manages investments, helped us figure out all sorts of planning stuff, life insurance, disability insurance. I believe her initial consultation is free (at least it was a year ago), though we basically decided to work with her on the spot. Her number is 617.876.0042, and tell her that Lissie referred you!

Be warned, Ameriprise folks get commissions from selling you on products they're associated with.
