I-Café

In Teel Square, between Amelias and the Dentist is a doorway with a window to the right that says "I-CAFE". In front of it is a sign that gives information about its menu. They server both savory and sweet crepes and offer wireless internet connections. They also have a LOVELY Moroccan sweet mint tea.

They are a lovely discovery. I had the grilled chicken with pesto crepe which was flavorful and filling. I also enjoyed the sweetened mint tea (an old time favorite). They are in the basement and therefore kind of hidden away. I won't tell you that they are five star restaurant, but for $5 I had a lovely dinner!

I can't find a web presence or I'd link you up. Meanwhile, if you are in Teele Square, somewhere around 1135 or 1137 Broadway, you might check them out. According to schpahky they are open until 10 during the week and 11 on Fridays and Saturdays. Closed on Sundays.. More updates: open until 10pm during the week, and starting next weekend will be open 9-3 on Saturday and Sunday. (thank you, once again, to schpahky)

On the Hot Drinks front: Coffee (regular or decaf), Espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, mochas, hot chocolate, wide varieties of tea (price range of $1.25 to $2.50).

Sweet crêpes: Apple cinnamon & whipped cream ($3.95), Banana cinnamon & whipped cream ($3.95), Banana almond & whipped cream ($4.50), Apple banana pecan & whipped cream ($4.50), Apple walnut raisin & whipped cream ($4.50), Strawberry banana & whipped cream ($4.95), Strawberry chocolate & whipped cream ($5.50).

Savory crêpes: Turkey cranberry sauce & cream cheese ($4.95), Smoked salmon tomatoes red onion & cheese ($5.25), Grilled chicken breast tomatoes and pesto ($4.95), Roasted peppers tomatoes feta cheese ($4.75).

Free wireless internet.

The neon sign says I-CAFE and I understand they are applying for a better signage permit so people can actually find them. I had a sweet crepe last week that was very good - they are the soft, thin-pancake kind you have to eat with a fork, not the hand-held Mr. Crepe ones. So everyone should be happy now with their local crepe options.

Also it turns out the I-CAFE owner is the former owner of Sound Bites, back in the day. So he does know something about running a business. I hope they thrive. They're open until 10 during the week, 11 Friday and Saturday, and closed (sigh) Sunday. When Teele Square gets a cafe open on Sunday I will rejoice.

i admit i haven't gone in, but it's in the basement and it certainly doesn't look like a building with an elevator from the outside.
