On Thursday there will be a road race in Davis Square.
It's too late to register (deadline was November 20th), so this mostly serves as a warning to people who want to drive on Thursday morning. (It doesn't go down my street, so I have no recollection of whether traffic gets held up for this race, anyone know?

Starts at 9am in Davis; the race goes up Holland to Teele Square, up Packard to Powderhouse, Broadway to Medford Street, Central to Somerville Ave, and Elm back to Davis Square.

Oh yes. I want to second that warning to drivers.

I'd also like to encourage anyone in the race to please have a heart and let people who are driving cross the road. I almost missed my plane home one year because no one would let my friend's car through for 20 minutes. If we'd known about the race (I had no idea; it wasn't advertised well enough) I would have made alternate plans. There were no signs posted encouraging alternate routes. As a broke post-college student who could only afford to fly out of Providence on T-Day, I really wanted to get home and spend much needed family time.

Please remember not every driver out there is out for a pleasure cruise in the morning, and it's possible they've been waiting to cross the road for several minutes, and they would really like to see their family that day, too.

The streets are closed for a reason - to make it safe for the runners. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it's one day a year for a few hours...

I understand. I certainly don't want to hurt anyone. But for that few hours, it really messed up my chance to get home and spend time with my family. Which only happens once a year for me, too.

That year the streets weren't closed, as far as we knew. There were no signs at all, no alternate routes suggested, and we definitely didn't see any signs around town advertising the event. We would have happily taken an alternate route if information had been provided.

with 2,000+ runners, you can basically expect that traffic will be all messed up for the entire hour or so duration of the race.

That's kind of a short race. I walk that circuit sometimes and it doesn't take long. If they're running they'll be done pretty quick, I expect.

Road closings?

You may be the wrong person to ask, but do you know how early streets will be blocked off tomorrow? I am taking a cab to the airport from between-davis-and-teele tomorrow, albeit quite early in the morning (like 5:30 am early).

Thanks!

For most of these races the streets are not closed off until basically the beginning of the race.

The exception is the start/finish line, which is generally closed off a little before the beginning of the race, but I do not think you have much to worry about at 5:30am. If nothing else the cabbie will just take College to Powderhouse and down Broadway (instead of going through Davis to Highland to Broadway)

It's too late to register (deadline was November 20th).

Online registration closed on the 20th. There's still race day registration for anyone that wants to still run.
