... is almost open -- they were laying asphalt this morning.

In fact, because I had to move my car so that the road-construction equipment could get into position, I got to drive over it because it was the only practical way to get out. So I may have been the first "unofficial" vehicle over it. :-)

I don't know if they're going to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony or anything -- I expect I'll just come home one of these days and there won't be any barriers up. (You can already walk across it as of Friday.)

One thing that delayed the Lowell Street bridge project was everyone's insistence that it be open to pedestrians and bicyclists at all times during construction. This meant building a small temporary bridge for pedestrians before demolishing and rebuilding the real bridge.

The Walden Street bridge project in Cambridge has the same constraint.
