Best Buy at Cambridgeside Galleria Closed

(Though this isn't in Davis Square, I think that Cambridgeside may be the closed public transportation accessible mall)

Just as an FYI for anyone looking to do holiday shopping, the Best Buy at Cambridgeside Galleria is closed indefinitely. I spoke with someone who works at the information booth at the mall, and she said that there was a water main break that caused a lot of damage to the store. I found this article from Tuesday about a double water main break near the mall, and this article which calls the damage "severe".

I feel really bad for the employees of the store.

Is Borders open? It's right above Best Buy, I think.

I believe that the Borders and the Macy's Home Store are open. I think that the flooding was on the first floor of the Best Buy. The one article mentions that the Macy's and the Borders were closed on Tuesday because of a loss of power, and not any damage from the break.

is Macy's Home Store the former Filene's? What kind of stuff do they sell?

There were 2 Filene's in the mall - one with cosmetics, men's & women's clothes and shoes. The other was the "Home Store" which has dishes, bedding, appliances, wedding registry, kids clothes and lingerie. They are now both Macy's. The Home Store is on the 3rd floor, above the Borders.

It's both, since the Best Buy is 2 levels, and the lower floor extends beneath the Borders.

It's pretty much the first time the Woburn Mall has made the news since probably the mid-80s. :)

Meanwhile, if you still need a Best Buy, the closest ones appear to be the Watertown Mall (bus #70 from Central Square) or the Landmark Center in Boston (Green Line D to Fenway).

At least some of the employees are ok: one of the people in my Japanese class works there, and he says that for now, at least, he's got time off with pay.
