In the last day, someone has twice removed the long-standing link to this LJ community from the Davis Square Wikipedia page. I put it back, and someone took it out again. I really don't want to get into an edit war. Would someone else like to restore it this time?

All social-networking sites and blogs are restricted from being external links.

This is neither a blog nor a social-networking site. Not even close.

Though, it is kind of a pointless thing to link to. Wikipedia also needs to stop using so many awful photos.

(I'm very cranky today, apparently)

I'm really not sure what you'd consider LJ to be, if not a blogging and social networking site. And "not even close"? I'm confused.

Possibly this particular community is not bloggy (though it is pretty networky...), but there's no way wikipedia can determine which LJ sites are or are not blogs and networks.

(I come at this rather bitter because the school I work at blocks most blogging sites and LJ is one of the blocked sites -- I think a lot of people disagree with your opinion of what LJ is.)

So, in other words: Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown Wikipedia.

Hmmm. This isn't really either of those, though... it's more like a community forum that happens to be hosted on a bloggy website.

They mention discussion forums as bad links as well.

Pity.

But you're an active member of this community and thus not very impartial. And being wrong for a long time doesn't make something right.

For me, I think this community is fairly irrelevant, but it's amusing from time to time :)

This is livejournal. Hardly essential. Blink and the Davis community will become as useless as b0st0n.

But you don't understand! Many of us spend countless hours roaming through Davis Square, prowling for any change, no matter how small, so that we can 1) update davis_square and 2) email Rebekah Gewirtz about it.

But for livejournal, how else would you know that I had a tasty burrito at Anna's over the weekend? That the BoA machine on Highland was not printing receipts between 11:34 PM yesterday and 7:42 AM this morning? That the damn Tufts kids are on my damn lawn? That the Someday is still closed? That the bank marquee misspelled the word "Wednesday" last Tuesday? That the Someday is still closed?

Please walk a mile in our obsessive-compulsive shoes before you judge us. I hear there's an open shift for "Davis Square Updates Taskforce" (aka 'DSUT' - we like to call outselves "Dusties") Saturday mornings between 7 AM and Noon. This is an important time that needs coverage. Just think of the people in Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds that are not being counted! The red lights that are not being timed! Just thinking about it makes me sob! Somebody call Rebekah!

The Someday is closed? Since when?

You know, what this square really needs is another burrito joint. One with bike-thru service.

Dude, there's a HOLE across the street where One Davis Square used to be! and you can't even use the overly dangerous bike park & lock there because there's CONSTRUCTION going on.

I tend to agree. While this lj community has proven useful from time to time, it's hardly essential to my use or enjoyment of the Square, the city or the surrounding environs.

I find that actually going outside is more useful than sitting at a computer screen wondering what people have to say about Davis Square. What will they comment abou next??!!?!?! I can hardly contain the excitement!!

Someone could easily just make a static page about Davis Square that just happens to have a prominent link to here, and then link to that static page from the Wikipedia article.

That looks more like a promotional site, which is forbidden to link to by Wikipedia.
