hey guys,

ok so one person said st. joseph's is the closest catholic church to the square, but I see a handful listed online. They all look around the same distance, a mile or 2 from the square? Can someone tell me anything about the distinctions btwn them? St. Josephs, St. Annes, St. Catherine, St. Clement, & St. Anthony? Or should I just go to a mass at all of em hahah.....

Hmmm...

Thankkkkkkks!

Actually I think St. Anthony's would be closer... Maybe St. Cathrine's and St. Clements too? I forget. I like St. Joseph's though cos it's my church XP I bet they're all pretty much the same.

Huh? Almost certainly, St. John's is the closest Catholic church to Davis Square. As I said in the other thread on the same subject, it's on Mass. Ave. across from Day and Dover streets. A 4-minute walk from Davis Square.

Honestly, if you're that worried about it, get creative with Google maps.

I think the one they're talking about is St John's not St Joseph's. It's actually in Cambridge, but probably the closest one to the Day T. It's got a web site (http://www.stjohncambridge.org/).

St Clement's (http://www.rcab.org/bin/f.wk?rcab.info.entry.display+@ID=4374) is right on the Somerville-Medford border, but depending where in the Davis area you're coming from, it might be closer than St John's.

St Catherine's is definitely not as close to Davis as St John's. It's about 15 minute walk from from the Porter T and probably a little more from Davis, though I've never made that walk. I've been inside. It's a very pretty light blue color. They have a web site (http://www.masspromotions.com/clients/stcatherines/).

I don't know anything about St Ann's, but they also have a web site (http://www.stannsomerville.org/).

There IS a St Joseph's, but it's in Union Square.

Two things I know about St. John's (as a non-Catholic who happens to live quite nearby):

It was Tip O'Neill's church. When he died, they had a huge funeral mass and procession.

I've sometimes seen anti-abortion displays in the yard outside. That would creep me out, but might not bother you.
