should open within the next week, according to people I talked to inside. The inside is now unrecognizable as the former location of Someday Cafe.

Do you have any inside scoop about the status of the proposed new "employee owned" someday cafe? I know they have been having meeting and raising money, but I'm not sure if they actually have made much progess getting a location.

Great. Let's hope the coffee is awesome! I spoke to the owner a while back and apparently the place was infested with mold. The Square needs new life and this should help.

YES! I move back to the square on the 15th -- what a great welcome home :)

I personally would love it if someone would open another straight up coffee shop. Or, at least, I hope Mr. Crepe can accommodate some space for lingering over coffee. It's a bummer how Diesel seems to be full at any hour of any day of the week.

If anyone feels enterprising, the former space of Comicazi is for rent! ;)

straight up coffee shop--that would be a dream come true. Something like True Grounds in Davis would be great. If I had the money and the ingenuity, I'd totally do it. and if I didn't have a full time job already.

Yeah...for every time I think that the area has too much coffee capacity, I remember the time I started at Porter Square Books and walked past Carberry's (or whatever it was at the time), Bhoja, Diesel, Starbucks, and Someday, and none of them had any seats. And I don't think this is rare. It's amazing how much appetite there is around here for coffeehousing.

Of course, now I live a 2-minute walk from True Grounds :). But seating's getting harder to find there, too.

Yeah... I think it's a bummer that two new Mexican restaurants are opening up in Davis (Boloco in O'Natural's space and Chipotle in Buck A Book's(?) space) and no new coffee shops.

On related note, I was recently looking for a place to sit and have coffee (on a Monday mid-day) with a couple of people and we ended up finally at La Contessa's and it was so cozy in there and the woman working was so nice. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case people forget that place is there. :)

I wonder what's planned for that 400 Highland space if anything? Maybe someone like Peet's coffee would be interested in that space? Not that there's anything we can do about this...

Do we know when Chipotle is opening? Are they planning on having an outdoor patio in between them and Starbucks? Did they get a liquor license? I know they usually serve beer and Margerita's.

Also, has anyone tried "La Spina" yet?

And what's going on with the vacant building next to the Rosebud?

So many questions.....

Comicazi?

I didn't realise they'd closed. I knew the owner, Dave. What happened?
I think this is a tough corner to do business.

The woman I saw there today (Thursday) said they would open on Saturday.

Just FYI

For what it's worth, I think Boloco is more like a coffee shop than it is like a Mexican restaurant. Although, not necessarily the linger-for-a-long-time coffee shop.
