Yeah...for every time I think that the area has too much coffee capacity, I remember the time I started at Porter Square Books and walked past Carberry's (or whatever it was at the time), Bhoja, Diesel, Starbucks, and Someday, and none of them had any seats. And I don't think this is rare. It's amazing how much appetite there is around here for coffeehousing.
Of course, now I live a 2-minute walk from True Grounds :). But seating's getting harder to find there, too.
Yeah... I think it's a bummer that two new Mexican restaurants are opening up in Davis (Boloco in O'Natural's space and Chipotle in Buck A Book's(?) space) and no new coffee shops.
On related note, I was recently looking for a place to sit and have coffee (on a Monday mid-day) with a couple of people and we ended up finally at La Contessa's and it was so cozy in there and the woman working was so nice. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case people forget that place is there. :)
I wonder what's planned for that 400 Highland space if anything? Maybe someone like Peet's coffee would be interested in that space? Not that there's anything we can do about this...
Do we know when Chipotle is opening? Are they planning on having an outdoor patio in between them and Starbucks? Did they get a liquor license? I know they usually serve beer and Margerita's.
Also, has anyone tried "La Spina" yet?
And what's going on with the vacant building next to the Rosebud?
If Chipotle was applying for a liquor license I think Rebekah would have mentioned that in her newsletter or at the Davis Square Task Force meeting. I don't know anything more about it, but you could e-mail her (rebekah@rcn.com) and ask.
For what it's worth, I think Boloco is more like a coffee shop than it is like a Mexican restaurant. Although, not necessarily the linger-for-a-long-time coffee shop.

400 Highland is supposed to become an Italian restaurant. Hope it's more successful than the last three eateries in that space.
