Can anyone recommend a decent primary care or family practice facility in Davis or Porter? I'm looking to choose a new doctor and don't want to have to go to MGH every time I have an appointment!

Somerville Hospital on Highland and Cambridge Hospital (satellite location) on Central are great places and have primary care/internal medicine components.

I go to Somerville Family Practice on Broadway. It's between Simpson and Paulina, and is a very short walk from my apartment, so it was the obvious choice for me. I've only seen Yael Myers, one of the nurse practitioners there, but there are two MDs and one other NP as well. Everyone I've dealt with has been very nice, and it's not too hard to get an appointment (within a week or two for non-urgent things, and same day for times when I was sick and wanted sweet sweet drugs ASAP).

Personally, I have had all positive experiences with Dr. Hobbs at Harvard Vanguard in Davis. I know there are a few people who dislike one of the doctors there (I can't remember his name now), but Dr. Hobbs and the other staff I've seen there have all been wonderful. Plus, I'm a big fan of their "Adult Urgent Care" facilities for after-hours, non-hospital stuff.

I will strongly recommend against anything in the Cambridge Health Alliance system.
Their administration is a mess and they are completely incompetent at things
like billing, keeping and transferring records, and informing you when
your doctor is leaving.

I've switched to Somerville Family Practice on Broadway and have met
all of the folks there and they all seem reasonably nice and competent.

I've had a great experience there too. My NP is Maggie Satterfield and she's lovely.

Contra this, I haven't had any problems with Cambridge Health Alliance (primary care physician, midwife). In particular anyone I've dealt with seems to have access to all my records although I've been treated at several sites.

They just switched their recordkeeping system a few months ago, which hasn't caused any problems for me and may have rectified other issues.

The billing does annoy me, though -- there's separate physician and hospital billing (at least at the Cambridge Hospital), so you can get multiple bills for the same procedure, and it's confusing to keep track of and makes it hard to tell how much you've really been charged.

I go to Dr. Brodsky at Davis Square Family Practice, in that little plaza next to the Davis Starbucks. I love her. I've also seen the NP named Carol (I think) when Dr. Brodsky wasn't available, and she was good... Plus, the office staff is always very friendly and helpful.

There is at least one other doctor there who I can't vouch for, having never seen him/her(/them?).

I have to second this. Dr. Broadsky is wonderful!! She takes a really nice holistic approach to your annual checkup that goes way beyond the typical "Does anything hurt??" attitude that's out there. She pushed me to see a dermatolagist about a mole that several other doctors had said very little about. It turned out to be a mole that was well on its way to becoming melanoma, which is very very scary.

One more vote for Davis Square Family Practice. I appreciate that they aren't the type of office to prescribe medication for little things, and are open to alternative medicine.
