My apartment seems to exist in a black-hole of delivery services. I ordered from Papa John's in Malden, and despite the fact that
I clearly said MEDFORD several times while ordering, they
called back asking where I was ordering from. Then they told me "oh, we'll deliver your pizza, but we don't normally deliver out that way."

Then why not say that in the first place?

Other places we've ordered from have delivered our food to a street of the same name in Somerville, or have taken unacceptably long (50 minutes) to deliver. Argh! It's not like we're in the boonies here, people.

So if anybody knows of any decent places to order (decent pizza? anything besides chinese? chinese that won't make us ill? bueller?) from that serve the Winthrop Ave Medford Area, inquiring minds want to know!

Well, I live off of Boston Ave. and have had good luck with a couple of places. For Chinese that won't make you sick, Rose's is a good bet. Pizzeria Roma is also good. They have good pizza and yummy wraps, some with surprisingly good ingredients.

I have a sensitive stomach and have been really pleased with both of these places over the years. Good luck!

This page (http://www.tuftslife.com/dining/index.php?sort=DeliveryDesc) has a list of restaurants that serve the Tufts area. Some of them deliver. There are menus on this page and everything. Enjoy!

I wonder if Theo's Pizza will deliver since they're kinda close. Also there's a Papa Gino's in Medford which makes me totally jealous as they're my favorite non-North End pizzeria and they won't deliver to my house but seeing as they're in Medford, one would think they'd deliver to you.

Theo's is great pizza, if you like the type. (It has completely dominated the ordering patterns of my weekly gaming group for quite some time now.)

Also -- there are Theo's in both Somerville (near the Medford border by tufts) and Malden (near the center, IIRC). One or both should deliver. Good pizza, good other pizza-store food, and good prices.

I have had good luck with Avelino's on Mystic Ave. for pizza/pasta sorts of things. For Chinese that won't kill you, I'd recommend Hong Kong Village in West Medford Square. Places in Ball Square like Zing Wingz are also possibilities.

Honestly, I usually just go to pick up if I order, so my repetoire is a bit shallow. I know these places will deliver to my place just off of South Street, so Winthrop should be too much more of a stretch.

or rather shouldn't be...

Oasis Restaurant - 373 Main St. - Phone: (781) 396-8337. They deliver all over Medford and it's great food - The Brazilian mixed grill for around $15 is a huge awesome multi course meal in one big foil tray that will totally feed two people for dinner and you will even have great leftovers for the next day. If you are willing to go there they have awesome grilled Brazilian meals for pickup or to eat there and every afternoon they have a really really good all you can eat buffet of Brazilian food that is charged by the weight of your plate.

For deliveries of pizza, sandwiches and salads with grilled chicken or beef tips on top I would recommend - Toni's By George, 399 Main St, Medford, MA, (781) 395-9396. Not sure exactly where you are located so they may or may not deliver there - you will have to call. They are located in South Medford near the intersection of Harvard St. and Main St.

I also second the recommendation of Avellinos on Mystic. Their portion sizes on pasta are totally insanely huge and will also guarantee you leftovers. I am pretty sure they deliver all over Medford.

Yes ... thumbs up for Oasis. We get the Vegetarian Plate 1 and Vegetarian Plate 2 and there are always leftovers.

For pizza, you could call Vinnie's Pizza in Malden and ask if they'll deliver. 781-321-4445. Ask for Dominic, say Bill's colleague mathew sent you :-)

You could try Urban Gourmet. They're in Ball Square (688 Broadway, 617-628-2322) but I don't know what their delivery radius is. They have very good pasta dishes and salads; I haven't tried their pizza yet. The back of their take-out menu says "Our pizza is slow cooked (each cooks for approximately twenty-five minutes)" so that may not be the fastest option for you.

I love Espresso Pizza dearly, on Boston Ave, although they're not the quickest on busy nights. There is also another decent pizza place-I forgot what it's called, but it's connected to the little Middle-Eastern style place on Boston Ave, very close to Rose's Chinese-check it out if you're by there.

Nicks House of Pizza (Boston Ave) has been a favorite of mine for many years.
But Expresso's (coner of Boston-Winthrop) stays open later. Every kid that goes to Medford High is practically required to work there at sometime in their life so there is nowhere in the city that they wont deliver to.

I used to live in one of those! (This was before college, and not in this state.)

There were 3 suburbs: the one that most of our zip code was in, the one we actually lived in, and the one that had many of the businesses most convenient to us. And that's not to mention that the name of our street was rather similar to the name of a (nearby, luckily) old folks' home.

There was a Papa John's near us (a really quick drive), but it wouldn't deliver to us. I don't remember whether the same-zip-code-city one would. Hm. When they introduced internet ordering, though, suddenly it was all fine. The magic computer gave our order to a store, so it must be ok! Of course, by then I was only ever there to visit, but as I recall my mom took advantage of it sometimes.
