permit me a moment to bitch. so i bought annie lennox's medusa at the cd spins downtown and it turned out to be too scratched to play properly. they issued me a credit slip but i didn't have time to use it on my lunch hour so i figured i'd wait and go to the one in davis. so after work, about 6:30ish i head over. with five or so of us the clerk announces: "i'm going on lunch break so please hurry up and finish." umm ok. when i worked retail alone i never got a "lunch" (i just ate food while working, in between customers) and was just compensated for the extra time. i've worked retail, i know about customers and breaks and all that jazz and if i were him, i would have waited for one of those lulls when no one was in and scurried up to put up the "temporarily closed" sign.

anyway. so i've got a $8.39 credit and i'm holding a cd priced at $5.99. i'm trying to use up the last bit of my credit (and probably go over and spend more money) when he comes up to me and point-blank tells me to stop looking. so i give him the cd and credit slip.

me: so can i get change?
him: no, i'll have to write you a new credit slip for the difference (which, mind you is $2.10)
me: that's what i thought. i was trying to save you the effort by picking out another cd so i'd use it all.
him: in a huff well, i've already been waiting 20 MINUTES to go to lunch!

wow? really? your lunch was 20 minutes late? here, let me cry a tear for you. no, wait, i don't think i will. what an asshole. and that's been my experience with all but one of the staff there. i showed up one morning when they opened only to be told by the clerk to come back in half an hour 'cause he needed to get coffee.

so i figured it might be a perfect time to try disc diggers since my roommate raves about them so much. and ya know what? their staff was MORE friendly, MORE knowledgable, they had WAY MORE of a selection that was BETTER organized and WAY CHEAPER prices. hmm, i wonder where i'll be doing all my used music shopping now. you guessed it, DISC DIGGERS.

FYI, the staff at the CD Spins in Havard Squar (on Church Street) is super friendly.

Perhaps he was uncomfortable with a pirate in his store.

When I was trying to sell off some of my CD collection, Disc Diggers refused some CDs I'd never even taken out of the case -- if they thought that it MAYBE POSSIBLY MIGHT be scratched, they refused it. Which, from the customer side, is really nice.e

I agree here ... they are super selective. And have a *much* better selection, esp. for stuff other than rock. Plus, they have much more of a community vibe.

I don't live in Davis, so I've only been to Disc Diggers once a few years ago, and I thought their prices were kinda high ($9-11) compared to what I'm used to. What are their prices like now? I live closer to Davis now so I may want to give it another try.
