We need to find a vet that has dealt with allergies or can help us rather than give her antibiotics all the time.

Over the last year I have brought one of my dogs to the vet (wholepet health center) at least 8-10 times. All for things related to allergies.

At first it was just her scratching like crazy (no mites, fleas, ticks, nothing) and licking her paws, had a hot spot as well as being sad looking. The vet said it was allergies and put her on medicine but the medicine made her sick in a different way so we stopped that. We gave her a steroid shot and it worked for a month. Then she got a yeast infection in her ear (allergy related the vet said), another hot spot (we tried another cream), i could go on. Then she got spayed around Thanksgiving. The doctor said she had another yeast infection, gave her oral meds again and suggested we switch foods. We switched, did nothing. Then we thought maybe she was allergic to her collar...took that off for the last 3 weeks, nope does nothing.  I just feel so bad for her. She is licking her paws, scratching again and we dont know what to do.

Any suggestions please? We will gladly travel outside this area.

I swear by Beverly Animal Natural Health Center (banhc.com) although it's a hike to get out there. Dr's Ricketts & Crowley are phenomenal and call to check on my pets even when they haven't been sick. Dr. Crowley is also a homeopath and the clinic specializes in holistic care.

I have an incredible vet who makes house calls.
(www.vetcall.com) I have been using Dr. Jake for the past few years and have been extremely happy with him. He is a little more expensive than some places, but well worth it.

Allergies can be really difficult to treat in animals. If you're getting fed up I'd suggest taking your dog to a dermatologist. Angell and Mass Vet should have them.

Are you seeing any change in her fur?

I have a lab who has really crazy food allergies, and when she was a puppy she responded in a lot of the same ways your dog is (in addition to her fur getting really dry and mange-y looking) before we could pinpoint a food that was okay with her. If she isn't finicky about food, that may be something before racking up more vet bills. I had good luck with cutting out wheat for her.

I brought my cat to Veterinary Dermatology of New England or some such thing--it's an hour west of Boston. Really expensive but they know their stuff. I think she also has an office in Woburn once a week. It takes 3-4 months to get an appointment though. If you call Porter Square Vet they will know who it is (they referred me there)
