I am a member of a nonprofit opera company based in the Boston area, with the goal of bringing music to underserved populations while offering performance and production opportunities to emerging artists. What does that have to do with Davis, you may ask? Well, we're in search of a venue for our summer production, which will happen in late July (that's the plan, anyhoo.) We've been fairly Boston-centric out of necessity for our first year of operations, but it would be great to branch out into the surrounding areas. If you know of a small venue (basically, a decent stage, lights or the possibility of using rented lights, space for a wee orchestra, etc) that would be interested in hosting an up-and-coming organization, I would just love to hear about it! We can definitely pay for renting the space, although benevolence is always appreciated :)

If anyone is interested in checking us out, our website is www.bostonoperacollaborative.org

The Elizabeth Peabody House in East Somerville has, or used to have, a theatre company. It probably doesn't operate during the summer. Perhaps their stage is available. Other places I can think of are the Regent Theatre in Arlington, the Charlestown Working Theatre, and the Durrell Hall Theatre at the Cambridge YMCA.

On College Ave, the church across the street from our host-church has a beautiful basement space that they do rent out. I think it's the Methodist Church (someone here will know for sure). I saw a production there a few summers ago and was impressed with the size and the attractive stage.

Would your church also be available for this purpose during the summer?

Yep. I saw a summer production of The Lion in Winter there, oddly enough. Even without air conditioning, it was nice and cool because of being in the basement. In some ways it's better than our T@F space.

But I was asking about your church, the one where T@F performs.

Not at all recommended for a summer production. We have our festival in the summer, but it's hot. Plus, space is at a premium there these days. The space across the street is better suited for opera.
