Hi all,

I run a design studio in Somerville (in Spring Hill, I believe it is - off of Central Street), and I'm thinking of joining the local Chamber of Commerce. Does anyone have any experience with them? How are they in terms of access to other business owners, networking opportunities, etc? I'd like to get a bit more info about them before I spend the money.

Thanks in advance!

I have worked on and off with the Somerville Chamber for long time and find them to be very good in terms of offering networking, etc. I'd probably join if I was in business for myself.

My SO attends the meetings, I don't (they've always been badly timed for me; we have an Internet security consulting business together - http://www.coopercain.com).

He's met a lot of people, gotten to try some great food and nice wine (at mixers) and networked quite a bit. He says the people are smart and fun. He's also pretty outgoing and friendly, so if you're shy, you might not get as much out of it.

We get our health insurance through the SBSB because of our membership in the Chamber, which is another bonus.

In my limited dealings with them I've found them to be helpful and able to disseminate information regarding businesses, charitable events, etc. I believe their meetings are held monthly, along with other 'social' meetings held in local restaurants. Check out their web site. I think it's somervillechamber.org, or something like that anyway!
