Hi all!

I'm hopeful you guys will be able to help me out as I know the DS LJ is full of pet lovers! My partner and I have recently started new jobs and are looking for an affordable vet or low cost clinic in the area to have our beloved Daisy treated for an ear infection. Money is really tight, but we don't want to delay. We're looking for somewhere that will be low on cost, or willing to work with us on a payment plan to get her healthy.

Your thoughts/advice are most appreciated!

Best,

Heidi

I was pre-vet in college and interned at several vets. I'm not an expert, but I know how vet offices work and I've been around a lot of vets.

TA is hands down the best vet I've ever seen. He runs a one man operation out in Belmont, but he's excellent with animals and seems to really care about them. He also charges very reasonable fees, and I know he's let people pay on time in the past. It is worth the trip out to Belmont in my opinion.

Animal Clinic Of Belmont
TA Abaskharoun DVM
131 Belmont St, Belmont, MA 02478

I have a friend that was a long term client of TA's and she tried a couple of different vets that were closer to her home in Davis Square, and she wound up going back to TA's eventually anyway. That's not meant to be a slam on the local vets: it is just that TA is that good, and at no time will you feel like he's trying to pry additional cash out of you.

I take my furry little prince to Dr. Murphy at the Union Sq. Vet Clinic. He's an ANGEL. So soft-spoken and kind and gentle. I dont know how his prices compare to others but he does great work.

The only place I've heard of for lower cost procedures is Alliance for Animals in South Boston. (http://www.afaboston.org/) Their office visits start at $25! What a deal!

I hope Daisy is on the mend soon!

They won't be cheap, but when my cat had a $2400 vet bill Angell offered a payment plan in form of a CareCredit card, so I'm guessing those are available to any balance if you have decent credit. And I second Alliance for Animals in South Boston for low-cost, I've never had an animal there personally but I hear they're alright.
Good luck.

I use Porter Square Vet. (which is actually in Davis Square), and love them. They are very friendly and reasonably priced.

And they took very good care of my bunny, which is most important!

Is Daisy a cat, dog, goat, Norwegian Blue, hamster, sewer rat/Chihuahua (http://www.snopes.com/critters/lurkers/mexicanpet.asp), Madagascar hissing cockroach?

Just sayin', that might influence which vets people would recommend. (For example, there's a cat-only clinic in Arlington Center, and I can recommend some really excellent reptile/exotics vets if that's what you're looking for.)

I'll assume we're dealing with mammals, in which case, the Woburn Animal Hospital (http://www.woburnanimalhospital.com/index.html) is my choice of clinics. Dr. Schless has cared for my pet rats, and she's fab. Their rates seem pretty low, as long as you're not paying the emergency hours fee.

Best of luck to Daisy, whatever species she may be, with her ear!
