I'm looking to augment my home exercise equipment, and also to replace my workout shoes. I've been to City Sports in Porter, but their prices seem kinda inflated. Does anyone have any suggestions? Since I'm buying shoes, I want to make sure that it's a place where I can get fitted correctly. I'd prefer some place local to Davis, but can T somewhere if that's the best option.

Cross posted to Porter Square.

The Saucony outlet in Inman Square is worth a look. The staff know how to fit and there are some good deals. About a 15 minute walk from the Central T.

There used to be a running/athletic shoe store on Mass Ave just before the Cambridge Common (on the right side, coming from Porter). I have no idea about their prices, but they seemed interesting, and you might want to check them out.

At least I think this is the one I remember. Marathon Sports (http://www.marathonsports.com/)

There are also a ton of sports/outdoors stores over in Allston, on Comm Ave near BU (on the B Green line train)

and, depending on your gym membership, marathon sports may have a discount.

(HW members get a 10-15% discount there)

And, if you wait until after the Davis Sq race this sunday, I may get a 15-20% coupon in my race bag.

Yes, this is Marathon Sports on Mass Ave, and they have always done a very careful job in fitting me. I'm just a walker/slow jogger, but they were recommended to me by a friend who does a lot of running.

New Balance outlet in Allston, hands down, though it is not near the T. I am sure there is a bus.

Per MBTA.com, the 64 out of Central/Kendall stops next to the factory; the 86 out of Harvard stops on Market St about two blocks away.
