I think you mean Tip-Top. http://www.yelp.com/biz/r1vkjKMksmHhE9SjvSAdaw
I've never been there myself. Is it good?
Also, what's your favorite Porter Exchange place? I work closeby and often crave sushi, but am often intimidated to get take-out from any of the places. Hmm, maybe this quesiton is better asked in the Porter community.
I've been to Tip-Top, didn't find it very good. And they only had low-sodium soy sauce when I was there!
The best place in the Porter Exchange, IMHO, is Bluefin -- excellent sushi, and their agedashi tofu is fabulous. Kotobukiya is ok for quick and cheap sushi, but you get what you pay for there.
the agedashi tofu at Bluefin rocks my world, as does the tamago nigiri. The rest of their sushi I've actually found a bit lacking of late - it was really good the first couple of times, but the last few have been icky.
Nope, I didn't mean Tip-Top. I think the name had "Mister" in it? Anyway, it was primarily a sushi place and they used to advertise in the Boston Comic News (or whatever it was called) back in the day. It might not be there anymore, I dunno.
When I go to Porter Exchange I always get a noodlebowl from Ittyo, the shop in the corner next to the restrooms. Extremely yummy, very filling. They've got menus posted in large, friendly text and they package them up very well. But that's not sushi, sorry ;-) I've gotten sushi both from the place that faces out on the main corridor and from (Bluefin? I'm sorry, I'm horrible with names) and you get pretty much what you expect for what you pay.
If intimidation is a factor, just do a delivery from Yoshi's! You can pick out what you want from their website and then they bring it right to your door. I actually live on the other side of Porter from Davis, so they'll deliver past Porter Square.
Hana Sushi on Mass. Ave in Cambridge (across from the MBTA bus yards-turned-condos, on the same block as Joe Sent Me) has great sushi. I've been going for over five years now. They deliver, and their yellowtail has never failed to be delicious.
