Where's a good place to shop for carpet?

davis_squareIn particular, for runners for our stairs. I do about 95% of my shopping online now, but for carpets I want to touch 'em and see the color in real light. I know they've got stuff at Home Depot but I'm hoping to find stuff with a bit more character. Driving distance is fine.
