Over the past two weeks I've seen a pretty orange tiger cat going in and out of a hole at the base of my garage door on Bay State Avenue in Ball Square. The cat is an adult and rather thin. I can't tell if s/he is wearing a collar since all the sightings have been from my 3rd floor balcony when I didn't have my glasses on. The cat does respond to human voice and seems to want attention but is very frightened. S/he may be camping out in my garage.

I've put out food and water, but this pretty cat deserves better in life, and I have two already. If this kitty is yours, s/he misses you...

My e-mail is on my info page.

"Possibly" lost?

If you call Somerville Animal Control you can ask if a cat matching that description has been reported lost. This is how we determined the cat living in our yard was homeless and not lost, which allowed our neighbors to take the cat in without worrying they were stealing someone's pet.

They won't come and collect the cat unless you ask them to, and this way you might actually be able to reunite the lost cat with its lost owner. Odds are much higher the cat's owner has called the Animal officers than has an LJ.

And if you know someone who might be interested in adopting the cat, they can provide the tests and other health checks at a discounted rate (So says the neighbor who took in the stray).

Here's the contact info you need:

Let us know what you find out. I always hate to see homeless cats. I'm not sure if I could take him/her in but I'd like to know if you are able to track down where she came from or what else you find out. I have one cat already... thinking about getting another but the timing may not be right (lease issues). If she's really struggling I would hate to leave her out there. That's nice of you for putting food out for her though.
