Hello, all! I'm Jenn, one of the Technical Directors for Theatre@First, Davis Square's own community theater organization. Our summer show is about to start production and we need your help.

Join the crew for Festival@First: C'est Levine!, an evening of one-act plays by Mark Harvey Levine. This is a great way to meet new people, cultivate new skills and help out with one of our most popular productions. We try to keep everything as low-tech as possible during our one-acts, leaving your schedule open for other summer adventures.

Positions Available for Festival@First 2007

Publicity Coordinator(s) (Ad Sales & Marketing)
Theatre@First's summer one-acts production is one of the best ways to get involved with the local community. The Producer and Festival Director seek enthusiastic individuals with good organizational and people skills to help get the word out about our show.

Assistant Technical Director for "Cabfare for the Common Man"
"Cabfare" is our most complex piece, with lots of people, lots of props and some fun technical challenges. You'll get to work closely with the Show Director and the Technical Director to make this piece a success! This position is particularly recommended for someone who is entertaining the thought of jumping on the TD bandwagon.

Assistant Props Wranglers
A great job for people who love using their hands and their brains -- we promise not to let Zombie Shakespeare near 'em. Finding props is half scavenger hunt and half arts and crafts. Work with our Senior Props Wrangler to add flavor and texture to the scenes.

Costume Management
Bugs! Zombie Shakespeare! Pretentious partygoers! And some actual living human beings to boot! Bring your creativity and organizational skills, and help ensure that our actors aren't naked. (Or try to convince the directors otherwise!)

Make-Up Design
Bugs! Zombies! What more do you need to know? We've got characters of all ages, and only a few different species. Face painters welcome, as long as you can also teach people how to put on the basics.

Lighting Designer
Play with spotlights and gels to create 'mood lighting' for the passage of time, the passions of love, platonic and otherwise, and plenty of blackouts without the unpleasant morning after effects. Previous experience a plus, but we've got plenty of support to help you out. (Extra bonus points if you're willing to also be Light Board Op.)

Sound Design (Apprentice)
Our veteran sound designer is looking to help someone learn the ropes of sound design. One-acts are your chance to shine -- little vignettes peppered with sound effects, and couched within thematic musical transitions. Imagination, limited fear of computers, and a love of music are all we ask! Must play nicely with others. (Extra bonus points if you're willing to also be Sound Board Op.)

Stage Manager
We're looking for a behind-the-scenes god or goddess who gives good headset. The commitment is a few rehearsals here and there, until two weeks before opening, and then you can go mad, mad with power! Play God and make our show happen.

Rehearsal Assistant
This is the perfect job for people who want to contribute to the creative process of the summer one-acts in a low-pressure environment. Work with a single director and his or her cast. Find out what really happens during rehearsals and become party to more inside jokes than you ever thought possible. We especially recommend this job for people who are considering applying to direct in future festivals.

Run Crew
Want to meet cool people without the pressure of memorizing lines? Our shows wouldn't be worth watching without the talented and fun-loving run crew, so join the team and help transport our audience through space, time, and other people's houses.

Light Board Operator
Let there be light! Need we say more? Commitment is tech week and performances. You will probably want to come to a couple of the rehearsals and work days as well.

Sound Board Operator
Let there be sound! See Light Board Operator above. But you get one extra tech week to perfect your skills.

All positions are unpaid, but you do get the chance to work with some terrific people. Plus the satisfaction of participating in an awesome summer theatrical experience? Okay, okay, we'll throw in some food. No, Zombie Shakespeare, not the brains.

Please contact me at lifecollage @ livejournal.com with all inquiries or questions, or to apply for a position. If applying, please include any technical experience you have.

Many thanks, and we'll see you at the theater!
