3 sexual assaults reported in the area around Tufts University/Winthrop & Boston Ave.

Please stay alert, particularly at night. Keep the iPod headphones off and be aware who is nearby.

Actually, a fourth assault dated March 31st has also been reported. Medford/Tufts police do not know whether they are related, but they are issuing warnings to the student body.

With the assault georgy mentioned, that actually makes a total of five assaults in the same area in the past month. Definitely scary.

Thanks for the heads up. I live at Boston & North, and walked home Monday night from Davis. Wish I had known all of this then - I would have waited for the stupid bus at least.

i was watching NECN this morning and they reported about the assaults. they said one girl had been assaulted while waiting at a bus stop! (on boston ave). so, that is not necessarily the safer option either, altho if you're at davis then it's pretty safe to assume there would be other folks around.

they also said most of the assaults occured between 930 and 11pm.

Earlier this evening, the City of Somerville auto-called everyone in West Somerville to tell them about the Medford assaults and remind everyone to be attentive.

(It was the police chief this time, not Tom Champion.)

Not everyone in West Somerville. I didn't get a robo-call. (But I live between Davis Square and Mass. Ave., so maybe they figured I'm too far away from the scene of these crimes.)

The Police targeted that call to portions of Wards 6 and 7 in the vicinity of the Tufts campus. Not all of West Somerville got called. Also, folks who have cell phones but no landlines, or who prefer to get calls on their cell phones or by email, should sign up by calling 311 or by going here on the city's website:
