I live in Davis Square/Somerville. Does anyone know if they're picking up recycling tomorrow? Thanks!

They came this morning in the Teele Sq area, so my guess would be they are coming. (But that's still just a guess)

Er, actually, I don't know if they came or not. The recycleing I put out is gone, but it's possible the trash people took it. This is especially possible since my recycling bin went missing at the same time. So, never mind my above post- i know nothing.

I think the trash people are different than the recycling people (i see my separates being picked up at different times) and I also don't think the trash people would take the recycling. 1) I think they'd get in trouble if they were found out, and 2) it's extra work for them to bother. Their job is trash collection, not keeping the streets tidy so it seems strange they would.

If you need a new bin head over to the recycling center near city hall and pick up a new one. (the advantage when mine disappeared is that the new bins are much bigger and all my recycling actually fit! the guy there said bins disappear all the time.) Hopefully the fact that bins are getting bigger over time shows a trend toward more recycling and less thrown out garbage?

There was no official recycling bin in the apartment when we moved in, so we've been using an old plastic bin of mine. It's worked up until now, but unlike the blue bins it could have been mistaken for trash by the trash people- hence my worry that that's what may have happened.

I hope that the bigger bins do mean a trend towards more recycling! I wasn't sure where we could pick up an official one (or where the recycling center was)- thanks for the tip!

oh, okay.... the address to get a new bin is 1 Franey Road. aka, the Department of Public Works yard. Info from the city website on picking up a new bin:

I live at Powderhouse Square, and I know for a fact that our recycling was picked up by the recycling truck, so I would say yes.

My trash and recycling was picked up as usual this AM, so I think they're running on schedule this week.
