Hey, folks.

I'm looking to hire a very part time personal assistant. But seriously--you'd basically be maintaining my calendar, sending out e-mails, sending me text message reminders about appointments, and occasionally picking something up for me.

I'm paying $10 an hour under the table.

If you're paying someone without reporting the income, paying social security taxes, etc., I'm pretty sure it's illegal regardless of the nature of the work.

It's not illegal to *pay* someone under the table IIRC. It becomes the payee's responsibility to file and pay their own taxes and SS. Essentially, they're self-employed and are committing the illegal act if they fail to claim their income. I don't recall the legal surrounding claiming that you've paid someone or not, but I don't think you're required to pay taxes or SS for someone unless they are actually your employee...for which self-employed contractors wouldn't qualify.

It's true - until the point where you have paid them more than $600 in income, when you have to report them to the gov't yourself, and send them a 1099. But you don't have to pay any taxes for them, etc.

Currently, between 1-5. But it can be done at your leisure within a 12-24 hour period, generally.
