hi guys -- my car's air conditioner is on the fritz and needs repair. (i'm pretty sure my Freon levels are low, as the fans are working just fine, engine temp is fine.)

i've noticed along mass ave there are at least three mechanics that tout their AC-repair skills. i'd rather not just randomly choose one, so can anyone recommend a place for this AC work in the area?
(if you happen to know roundabouts how much such repair might cost or how long it'd take that would be really helpful too.) i'm heading out of the area in 2 days and am curious if i should try to get this fixed now or after i get back.

thank you so much!

A friend of mine had the same problem and just got it fixed--I think it ran him around $150 and didn't take long to fix. He was able to drop it off in the morning before he went to work and picked it up before going home (I *think* before lunch, even).

When I had the refrigerant replaced in my car's A/C a couple of years ago at ABJ, they had charged me $100, I think. If that's all your car needs, I'd think it shouldn't cost more than that.

AC Recharging is fairly basic work. You shouldn't need a specialist, so find a shop you like. I have had nothing but good experiences with Foreign/Domestic Auto by tufts in medford. You could probably get a jiffy lube to do it too but they'd charge you a lot more.

I should qualify that by saying that of course your car could have any number of other, more expensive problems too. But if it's as simple as a freon refill, it's a simple thing for a joe-shmoe mechanic to do.

Finding a "good mechanic" would be gravy because then if you DID have a more serious problem, your life would be a little easier.
