Fireworks? Thunder? A new front on Bush's war?

30 seconds of explosions near the center of Davis- not firecrackers.

gawd, how I have grown to hate the "4th" over the years.

i'm over near ball square- there were some pretty hellacious fireworks for probably fifteen minutes, which just ended about two minutes ago.

they weren't in the powderhouse square park area, they were more towards broadway by cedar street, although i couldn't tell you the exact location.

Are you sure it wasn't fireworks? The city's official fireworks show just ended moments ago. (and scared the crap out of both my kids, as usual. sigh)

It was the city's attempt to drown out the sounds of airplane traffic to appease its residents.

I heard it too. Wanted to kill. Glad it's done now.

Although I'll admit, I lived in areas of Providence where that was happening too, and it bugged me then. Thank the gods it's only the one day a year.

I could have sworn there was a "warning" in this community, but it turns out it was over in b0st0n (http://community.livejournal.com/b0st0n/5246189.html).

America! Fuck yeah!

It was awesome awesome fireworks for the 4th of July celebration. Why does everyone hate fireworks now? They are loud and flashy and explodey and everything America stands for.

I don't hate fireworks in general. What I hate is fireworks on a weeknight, after my kids' bedtime, and so close to our home that the noise is deafening.

I'm also irritated that they started early. The stated start time was 9:15 but they started at 9 by my clock. If it had started at 9:15 my son would have been asleep and I would have had one less hysterical child to comfort.

"Warning"

The Somerville fireworks display gets better every year, and this one was kick-ass.

Lasted a good bit longer than 30 seconds, though.

The ones at 9 were tests to determine which way the wind was blowing.
The real fireworks started in earnest at 9:15.

You make your kids go to bed at 9 in the summer?
As long as I didn't have to get up for something the next morning (school, a trip) I could stay up as late as I wanted (and yes, I'm talking 0-5, too).

The only downside is that, now, as an adult, I'm able to stay up late enough to watch the Sox lose west coast games.

We do have to get up for something the next morning. It's called work. (well, for me it's work. For them it's daycare.) They're not yet of an age where summer schedule is different from school-year schedule. We keep the same schedule year-round.

We get up at 7, so yes, I "make" them go to bed by 9. Actually I aim for 8, but we rarely manage that, especially when it's still light outside at 8. By 8:30 they're both pretty much worn out.

I don't know about [livejournal.com profile] chlaal's kids, but my daughter goes to summer camp - so yeah, she has a normal summer bedtime, because she still has to wake up earlyish in the morning.

The real fireworks started around 9:10, five minutes ahead of schedule. (Why do your kids go to bed so early on a summer night?)

I don't know, but they've been doing it for four years now, ever since Mayor Joe took office.
