smoothies?

What places in the Davis/Teele area make smoothies? Which are especially good? Which are particularly cheap(ish)? Who has a great selection, instead of having one or two milkshakes on the menu? Who has fun additions (flu fighters, energy packs, protein boosts, etc)?

I googled a bit and came up with a few options, but thought this might be an interesting discussion and addition to the memories. Boloco, Blue Shirt, JP Licks... what are your favorites and why?

There's nothing fun about fighting the flu. It's a very serious disease that claims many lives.

That said, Blue Shirt Cafe has some very tasty smoothies.

True, but the fact that you can do it by drinking a smoothie is kinda fun.

It goes without saying that nobody wants the flu, or thinks it's fun. It's ok to call vitamin C or immune-system booster ingredients fun. I really hope we don't have to be politically correct about the flu now.

Opinions:

Blue Shirt is tasty, consistent, you can ask for weird substitutions, and you don't feel nearly so awful drinking one of their smoothies as some sort of mochlocarassledazzlecarmelcreamiatto thing from 'round the corner. that being said, i think their prices are a bit high.

back when i lived downtown i loved the smoothies at the wrap (now boloco, it turns out) but i can't speak for its newest incarnation.

JP licks is only good for ice cream, which they do very well. their frappes tend to not be thick enough and once i ordered a black and white and they put chocolate ice cream in it! abomination! :O

As an aside, the best frappe i've ever had in boston is at U Burger, which is in Kendall Square. A bit of a jaunt for a beverage, but if you're close, pay it a visit.

the Smoothies at Boloco are quite good; I also like the smoothies at Emack and Bolios - their liquid yoga smoothie is terrific.

vanilla chai with banana and soymilk, and I think there's some pro.tein powder in it as well, but don't quote me.

If you're willing to walk down to Porter, Emack & Bolio's smoothies are delicious. But pretty expensive, so I only have about one a month.

They have both. I'm actually not a fan of Emack's ice cream, so my favorite smoothie there is non-dairy, all fruit. :)

I know this isn't in Davis, but I have to put a word in for the smoothie cart in the Harvard Square T station. They make great smoothies that are made entirely from fruit, with none of that yogurt/ice cream/mysterious powder stuff. Good for smoothie purists and those that don't want them to be too sweet.

I third the smoothie guy. Let him sell you on the smoothie of the day, too.

Also the head smoothie guy is really nice and funny and will remember you forever, and obviously takes pride in his smoothies.

I like Blue Shirt, but I haven't tried other places. The Peanut Butter Delight is nigh irresistable :) PB, chocolate, & banana - what more do you need? I've tried some of the fruit smoothies, too, and they're tasty, too.

I am very fond of the smoothies at Blue Shirt. I used to get them all the time when I worked in the area. I have had one at Emack and Bolio's that had fizzy water in it and it made me happier than a smoothie should. That one is not ice cream based.

I love love ice cream but I will say that I prefer my smoothies not so ice cream like. To me...that's a milkshake and a totally different thing.

Their lunch food is definitely good, and the coffee is great, but the smoothies are a little plain, and there isn't enough of a selection. :(

For smoothies alone, I don't know if I'd say it's worth the walk.

They're super new, though. I think they will be branching out soon.
